BRAZIL: Government Considers Using ".bet" Domain for Betting Sites
The Ministry of Finance is planning to establish its own domain extension for online betting and casino websites in Brazil. The entity aims to create the ".bet" extension, which will be exclusively utilized by companies within the sector and will precede ".br" in URLs.

The Brazilian Network Information Center (NCI.br) was informally consulted by the Internet Management Committee in Brazil, the body responsible for domain creation in the country. The creation of this domain extension is intended to assist users in identifying authorized companies operating in Brazil, prevent scams or frauds, and expedite the inspection and monitoring of irregularities.
The authority responsible for authorizing certain websites and determining which addresses are regular and permitted has yet to be determined. While it is anticipated that the process will not lead to significant debates, some members of the Finance Ministry express a preference for using "apostas" (bets) instead of "bets".
It is expected that much of the responsibility will fall on the Ministry of Finance and the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting.
