These modifications, in line with the Government's White Paper "High Stakes: Gambling Reform for the Digital Age", include reducing the intensity of online games, enhancing consumer choice regarding gambling marketing, implementing light-touch financial vulnerability checks, and tightening processes for age verification checks at premises.

These changes are set to be implemented in four stages: August 2024, November 2024, January 2025, and February 2025.

In response to consumer concerns, the Commission will conduct a pilot of frictionless financial risk assessments aimed at preventing instances where customers could spend large amounts in a short time without checks, resulting in significant gambling harm.

During the pilot period, consumers will not be affected to ensure the Commission can refine data-sharing processes before implementing assessments in a live environment.

Andrew Rhodes, CEO of the Gambling Commission, stated: "As a gambling regulator, it's vital that the introduction of new rules is evidence-based and takes into account the views of consumers and other interested parties."

"These changes reflect a proactive approach to enhancing safety and consumer choice in the UK gambling market, highlighting the ongoing commitment of regulatory authorities to address issues effectively and responsibly."
