SPAIN: The general press gathers the requests of the gaming sector against the approval of the Gambling Law of the Valencian Community
On the eve of the discussion of the new gaming regulations in the Valencian regional parliament, the general press gathers the intense debate around the controversial text, whose approval could imply not only the closure of 95% of the Gaming Halls but thousands of job losses.
From a political point of view, the Popular Party (PP) has stated that they will continue rejecting the bill and joins Ciudadanos in requesting to withdraw the regulations for discussion, while the serious situation and economic crisis continue as a consequence of the coronavirus.
The generalist press collects the massive pronouncements against the Valencia Gambling Law exposed by the gaming sector Associations Andemar CV, Anesar CV, Apromar, Asomar, the employers of the national private gaming sector Cejuego and Anesar, the Confederation Hospitality and Tourism Company of the Valencian Community (Conhostur), the Business Confederation of the Valencian Community (CEV) and the UGT union, which defends 7,000 direct and 30,000 indirect jobs in bars and restaurants.
The request is clear, to paralyze the discussion of regulations and thereby avoid catastrophic consequences for an economy seriously hit by the Covid-19 crisis.
The sector warns that gaming represents 2.3% of the region's GDP and contributes to the treasury with 144 million direct taxes and 130 million indirect taxes.
On the other hand, the sector claims to have alternative proposals that seek to avoid serious effects on economic activity, without neglecting the demands of society.
