Macau casinos posted a 79% drop in revenue during 2020 compared to 2019 figures, according to data from the Office of Gaming Inspection and Coordination.
Despite the fact that Macau has had no cases of COVID-19 in the last six months, it has not been able to reactivate its operations to 2019 levels due to border restrictions from mainland China and the new strain of coronavirus that emerged in the United Kingdom.
Data for December indicate that gross gaming revenue fell 66%, better than the 71% in November, representing a slight recovery. In this regard, a rebound is expected later in 2021.
