Paf improves climate reporting

For several years, Paf has carried out annual climate reports to gain a better insight into how the business affects the environment. With the help of the climate report, we can more easily identify improvements and strive to reduce our impact on the environment. Paf has now chosen to expand the report so that it will include mobile phones, computers, cloud services and the electricity usage for the physical games.

“We strive to constantly improve our environmental sustainability, that’s why it is important that we can get a better understanding of the impact we have on the environment. This will be a step forward again for our environmental work,” says Daniela Johansson, Deputy CEO and Chief Responsibility Officer.
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol

The climate report is calculated together with an external partner according to the established international standard GHG protocol (The Greenhouse Gas Protocol). The work on improving and expanding the report is already in progress.

“It’s scope 3 in the GHG protocol that measures the indirect emissions from our operations, which we are now expanding. Where, among other things, the purchases of electronic equipment such as mobile phones and laptops are added,” says Marie Lindroos-Assali, Facilities Manager with responsibility for environmental issues.

“Here, we have already noticed that our employees are less likely to buy new mobile phones and computers, since for a year now we have been offering everyone the opportunity to keep the electronics themselves, provided that it is used for a year longer. It is a nice environmental and economic win-win situation,” says Daniela Johansson.
Green cloud services

Most of Paf’s operations take place on the internet using cloud-based technology. But cloud-based technology also has an impact on the environment.

“We have been in contact with our partner Amazon to find out where their web servers are located and in what way they are operated. Their server park is located in Ireland and uses 60% renewable electricity, they strive to use 100% green energy,” says Marie Lindroos-Assali.

“Our focus on environmental issues will certainly affect our suppliers and partners in the future, when they notice that we demand more environmentally friendly alternatives,” says Daniela Johansson.

The cloud services impact on the environment is assumed to be approximately 6 tonnes of CO?e, the final figure will be compiled in the forthcoming climate report.

“We anticipate that our calculated climate impact will increase significantly as we expand our climate report. We want to work with different measures to reduce our climate impact, both in the short term and the long term, and the improved reporting will help us with that,” says Daniela Johansson.
