The Gambling Commission has published further data on the gambling sector in Great Britain.
This data, obtained from operators, reflects the period from March 2020 to June 2024 inclusive and covers online and face-to-face gambling, covering licensed betting operators (LBOs) located on high streets in Great Britain.
Comparison should not be made with the industry statistical dataset, as this dataset may include free bets and bonuses and does not include data from all operators.
This publication compares the first quarter of the 2024-2025 financial year with the first quarter of the 2023-2024 financial year, to see how the market has changed over comparative one-year periods.
The latest operator data shows:
Total online Gross Gaming Yield (GGR) in Q1 (April to June) was £1.46 billion, up 12% on Q1 last year. The total number of bets and/or spins increased by 11% year-on-year, reaching a new high for the second consecutive quarter of £24.5 billion, while the monthly average number of active accounts2 in the quarter increased by 9%.
Real event bets increased by 16% year-on-year to £625 million. The number of bets decreased by 7%, while the average monthly number of active accounts in the first quarter increased by 11%. Major sporting events, such as Euro 2024 taking place this quarter, would contribute to this increase.
Gross slot machine revenues increased by 10 per cent to £642 million. The number of spins increased by 12% to 22.4 billion, while the average monthly number of active accounts in the first quarter increased by 11% to 4.4 million per month. In this data set, the slots vertical has reached record highs in terms of GGY, spins and average monthly active accounts.
The number of online slot sessions lasting more than one hour increased by 8% year-on-year to 9.6 million. The average session duration remained at 17 minutes. Approximately 6% of all sessions lasted longer than one hour, the lowest percentage recorded in the dataset.
In Q1 2024-2025, gross betting revenue decreased 1 per cent to £582 million compared to the same quarter last year, while the total number of bets and spins decreased 1 per cent to £3.2 billion.
