Sun International has announced the appointment of Ulrik Bengtsson as Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 1 July 2025, or earlier depending on the approval of his work permit.
Ulrik, a Swedish national, brings nearly 20 years of leadership experience in listed international companies and consumer service groups across the gaming, betting, broadcasting, and telecoms sectors. He previously served as CEO of UK-based gaming company William Hill plc and as President and CEO of Betsson AB, a Swedish-listed online gaming group.
He will succeed Anthony Leeming, who has formally notified the board of his decision to take early retirement on 31 December 2025. Leeming has spent 26 years at Sun International, including the last 8 as CEO, and will remain in the company until the end of the year to ensure a smooth handover.
Sam Sithole, Chairman of Sun International, thanked Leeming for his service and dedication to the group and welcomed Bengtsson, emphasizing his strong track record and ability to unlock value in complex markets.
Ulrik Bengtsson stated:
“Sun International is an iconic leisure group with a proud heritage, and a unique growth opportunity to become a leading omnichannel player in the rapidly evolving global gaming landscape. I am thrilled to bring my experience and expertise to this fantastic organisation and look forward to working with the board and stakeholders to chart a bold path forward.”
