The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) has published an enforcement notice directed at all gambling operators, focused on preventing content marketing from being particularly appealing to under-18s.
The new compliance review will commence on June 11, 2026, utilizing an advertising monitoring system powered by artificial intelligence, alongside collaboration with social media platforms.
The notice warns operators that any advertisement breaching the rules must be modified or withdrawn immediately. Failure to comply could result in sanctions, including referring the case to the relevant platform or the Gambling Commission.
The regulator reminds the industry that all gambling advertising, including consumer-facing social media posts, must be socially responsible and comply with CAP and BCAP codes.
These rules aim to protect children, young people under 18, and vulnerable individuals from commercial communications that could cause harm or exploitation.
The Gambling Commission is working closely with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and warns that it will take robust action, including fines, in response to serious or repeated infractions.
