The Civil Guard has arrested a resident of Leganés as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of usurpation of civil status and document forgery, in an investigation in which the cooperation between an online betting operator, the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) and the authorities was decisive in advancing the case. as reported by Cadena SER.

The case began when the victim, when preparing his Income Tax return for the 2025 financial year, found that his draft included economic returns of 445 euros from an online betting platform that he claimed not to have received or recognized as his own. After filing the complaint through the telematic system "On Red", the first investigations determined that a third person had used part of the victim's identification data, along with a forged ID, to open a gaming account in his name.

Based on the information provided by the betting platform and the rest of the proceedings carried out, the agents managed to reconstruct the operation used and identify the alleged perpetrator of the events, a man with a domicile in Leganés. The Civil Guard requested a warrant from the judicial authority to investigate the whereabouts and arrest, which has been executed in the Madrid municipality.

The action is part of the National Plan for Prevention and Response in the field of Cybercrime, focused on crimes such as identity theft, technological scams and the illicit use of personal data. The Civil Guard has stressed that the collaboration between the DGOJ, the State Tax Administration Agency, the State Security Forces and Corps and the operators of the sector themselves is essential to detect this type of fraud, protect victims and facilitate the identification of those responsible.

The case confirms the active role that online gambling operators play, together with the DGOJ and the authorities, in the fight against identity theft and document fraud, providing the necessary information for the investigations to be successful.
