ALEA focuses on the new risks of online gambling to prevent money laundering
More than 130 professionals and 25 specialists analyzed in Buenos Aires the new digital criminal modalities and the need to permanently adapt the sector's controls.
The Association of Argentine State Lotteries (ALEA) brought together more than 130 professionals in Buenos Aires to address the evolution of risks related to money laundering and terrorist financing in the gaming sector, especially in digital environments.
The seminar, entitled "AML/CFT Prevention: Regulatory Dynamics and Permanent Adaptation", brought together compliance officers, technical teams, regulators, companies and representatives of specialized organizations in the Cibeles Room of the NH Collection Buenos Aires Centro Histórico.
A total of 25 specialists from the public and private sectors participated in six panels dedicated to analysing the vulnerabilities of face-to-face and online gambling, the emergence of new digital criminal modalities and the need to update prevention systems.
The sessions addressed the application of the risk-based approach, channel-specific controls, third-party and vendor oversight, and Independent External Review procedures.
The combination of regulation, technology, compliance and risk analysis made it possible to examine how control mechanisms should evolve in the face of the transformation of products, means of payment and criminal behaviour.
The president of ALEA, Ida López, warned that the transformation of the sector requires effective controls and regulation capable of adapting to a constantly evolving scenario.
"The sector is going through a transformation that requires effective controls and dynamic regulation. This seminar allows us to train, exchange experiences and work together to move towards a system that works preventively," he said.
The institutional opening was also attended by Gabriel Sánchez Zinny, Chief of Staff of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires; Jesús Acevedo, President of the Lottery of the City of Buenos Aires, and Alberto Mendoza, Director of Supervision of the Financial Information Unit.
