Nevada could approve esports betting by 2023

The Nevada Esports Technical Advisory Committee is in talks with the State Attorney General to create a regulatory framework that could allow esports betting as early as next year.

If this proposal goes ahead, special approval by the Nevada Board of Gaming Control would not be required before adding each market as is currently the case. Of course, each quarter, all operators would have to report to Nevada regulators about the events on which they have offered bets. The NGCB would also have the power to control which competitions would be included in the event of detecting any event suspected of being problematic.

Deputy Attorney General John Michela commented that "the goal is for licensed operators to be able to accept esports events in the same way as traditional sports."

This approval would imply a great growth for the electronic sports sector. In 2020 they already had a presence in the Nevada betting market with twelve events, however, this proposal would make the procedures to include their competitions much faster and more accessible for operators.

Next October 24 seems like a key date for this legal framework. It will be the day that the esports betting committee meets again with the aim of reviewing and finalizing the regulations that will be included in the document.
