Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, through its Secretariat of Prizes and Betting, has issued Normative Instruction SPA/MF No. 11, establishing guidelines for the registration of the "bet.br" domain. This domain will be available for fixed-odds betting operators, who must follow a regulated process to obtain and use this extension in their online platforms.
The regulation specifies that operators must apply for registration on the official website of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (NIC.br) and comply with certain requirements, including mandatory use of DNSSEC technology for domain security. The Secretariat of Prizes and Betting will verify each application to ensure compliance with established criteria, such as alignment with the registered trademarks of the operators.
If an application is rejected, operators may file an appeal within 15 days of notification. The regulation also includes a conflict resolution system for domain disputes through SACI-Adm, in coordination with NIC.br.
This normative instruction, effective today, strengthens Brazil's regulation of the betting sector, promoting a secure and transparent environment for operators and users of these online services.
