On the eve of their union, Cirsa claims 3.5 million from a subsidiary of Lottomatica for two gaming halls in Italy
The Catalan multinational sued Gamenet, a subsidiary of its new Italian partner, in 2025 in a lawsuit whose next hearing is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, just two weeks after the operation between the two groups was announced.
Cirsa's Italian subsidiary is seeking around €3.5 million from Gamenet, a company integrated into the Lottomatica group, for the alleged infringement of competition rules in relation to two gaming halls located in the Piedmont region (Italy). The next hearing is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, just a fortnight after the announcement of the cross-border operation between the two groups.
Lottomatica itself acknowledged the lawsuit in its latest annual accounts. "Gamenet has received a court summons from Cirsa Italia, alleging an alleged breach of competition law and, consequently, Gamenet's non-contractual liability for failing to vacate two lottery machine rooms after the expiration of the corresponding contracts," the group admitted in its 2025 report.
The conflict dates back to January 30, 2025, when Cirsa notified Gamenet of a court summons for not having vacated two engine rooms once the corresponding contracts expired. The company chaired by Joaquim Agut claimed 3.5 million euros in compensation. Four months later, the Lottomatica subsidiary filed its response to the court, in which it maintains that both gaming halls are still operational.
The procedure has been stalled so far, with successive postponements by the Italian courts. The first hearing was initially scheduled for June 20, 2025, but was postponed for 454 days. The two companies will meet again before the judge this Thursday, about fifteen months after the initially set date.
The litigation does not end there. According to El Periódico, the accounts of the Italian group reveal a second legal battle linked to the same gaming halls, located in the towns of Alessandria and Serravalle Scrivia (Piedmont). Gamenet, of Lottomatica, maintains an appeal on the validity of the contracts against the current manager of both engine halls, a company that also belongs to the Cirsa group.
Cirsa's sources confirmed to El Periódico the existence of the judicial procedure, although they admitted not knowing how it will be resolved in the context of the operation. Lottomatica, according to the same media, was also contacted, but did not respond to requests for information.
