Swedish public operator Svenska Spel earns more but earns less in the third quarter: operating profit falls by 9% despite the pull of betting, casino and Triss scratch cards

Net gaming revenues are up 1%, but strategic investments are cutting into the margin.
Svenska Spel, Sweden's publicly owned gaming operator, closed the third quarter of 2026 with net gaming revenue of SEK 1,898 million, compared to SEK 1,874 million in the same period last year. This is an increase of 24 million, or 1%, which the company attributes mainly to the growth of Oddset, its sports betting, casino, Triss scratch card and Lotto brands.
The group's operating profit , on the other hand, fell to 656 million crowns, compared to 718 million a year earlier. This is 62 million less, 9%, and the company explains this by the higher costs of its strategic investments. The operating margin stood at 35%, three points less than the 38% in the third quarter of 2025.
"The growth of the Swedish gaming market is moderate and, at the same time, competition for customers is tough. In this context, it is a sign of strength that we are gaining market share in both the licensing and lottery markets during the first half of 2026," says Anna Johnson, CEO of Svenska Spel. According to Johnson, "during the third quarter the positive development continues with growth and good profitability."
The executive underlines the importance of sports betting: "We exceeded our targets for the World Cup also in the last weeks of July, with high customer activity until the final." Johnson adds that the agreement with the Swedish Football Association "strengthens the business and is an important part of an attractive offer."
In the first nine months of the year, Svenska Spel's net gaming revenue reached SEK 5,741 million, compared to SEK 5,562 million, up 179 million, or 3 percent. The online channel grew by 8 percent. Cumulative operating profit was SEK 1,932 million, up from SEK 1,898 million ( up 2 percent) from SEK 1,898 million in the same period of 2025, with an operating margin stable at 34 percent. The result of continuing business reached 1,630 million crowns, compared to 1,536 million.
The figures refer only to the activity that is still underway and exclude the land-based casino business, which the company closed in April 2025. In this period, the sale of the former Cosmopol Casino building in Stockholm to Alecta Fastigheter has also been completed, which appears in the accounts as a liquidation activity.
Among the milestones of the quarter, the operator has extended until 2031 its main sponsorship of the two top ice hockey leagues, SHL and SDHL, and their clubs. Together with the Swedish Sports Confederation , it has awarded 60 new scholarships for elite athletes to combine their career with higher education. With the Swedish Ski Federation , it has extended and extended its collaboration until 2032, which now covers all sports of the federation.
The Triss scratch card is 40 years old, and the company is celebrating with a commemorative ticket with 40 million-kronor prizes. The biggest prize of the year so far has fallen in Vikinglotto, with close to 200 million kroner: it is a Swedish record for this game and the ninth largest prize in the history of Svenska Spel.
