José Luis Yzuel, President of Hostelería de España in support of the campaign #SoyPatrimonio2020
Trade bodys of bar and restaurants (Aecoc, Fiab and Hospitality of Spain) work hard through the Platform Together for Hospitality ( 'Plataforma Juntos por la Hostelería') in the campaign #SoyPatrimonio2020 (#IamHeritage2020), which aims to ensure that the bars and restaurants of Spain are recognized as Heritage of Humanity 2020, to protect and honor one of the sectors most affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
#SoyPatrimonio2020 has so far obtained the support of more than 150 chefs, musicians, athletes, actors, journalists and artists, many of whom have sent emotional messages to the sector. Thus, we highlight the participation of celebrities such as Ferran Adrià, Bertín Osborne, Ramón García, Carlos Latre, Maribel Verdú, David Summers (Hombres G), Antonio Resines, Boris Izaguirre, among others.
According to a press release from the platform, “in the event of achieving this recognition, Spain would consolidate its third position as the country with the greatest Heritage after China and Italy, with 49 material and intangible assets such as the Alhambra, the Fallas, flamenco or the Mediterranean diet".
# SoyPatrimonio2020 (#IamHeritage2020) supports its request that bars and restaurants are part of Spanish culture, constituting the largest space for leisure and socialization.
The sector affirms that history has gone hand in hand with them. "Writers like García Lorca, Ernest Hemingway or Valle-Inclán have written entire books on the chairs of our bars. And only one bar managed to bring together an entire generation of writers".
From a gastronomic perspective, “Spain has 250 Michelin stars, eleven of which correspond to Three Stars, and dozens of chefs have empowered our premises to take them to the top. In addition, our establishments have been closely linked to Spanish comedy. From Eugenio, who developed his career sitting at a bar, to comedians such as Goyo Giménez, Leo Harlem or Dani Rovira, who started with them. Our bars and restaurants are also the origin of hundreds of historical moments. Even the Spanish Constitution was debated and drafted in a bar counter”.
And, to conclude, the sector says “we are the country with the most bars per person. And it is that the restoration in Spain reaches 6.2% of the GDP (123.612 million euros), of which the restoration supposes 4, 7%, and employs 1.7 million people ”.
