The gaming industry emerges once again as the great generator of jobs and income from taxes, to the point that in times as tubulent as today, representatives of the Catalan administration have stated that "The Hard Rock complex is more necessary than ever ".
The Hard Rock Entertainment World project, formerly known as BCN World, and which would be located in Vila seca i Salou, next to Port Aventura, has a stipulated investment of approximately 2,500 million euros and plans to generate 10,000 jobs. The complex includes: hotels, casino, spaces for shows and a shopping center.
Both Pere Aragonès, 'vice-president' of the Government, and Damià Calvet, 'conseller' of Territori, have defended the economic opportunities of the project in an appearance before the Parliament, where they were rebuked by various opposition groups.
In this regard, Aragonès was clear when explaining "We cannot throw away a project that can generate thousands of jobs".
Meanwhile, Calvet commented: "The project is more necessary than ever, because it will generate new business and offer new opportunities." Consequently, it is planned to modify the Urban Master Plan (PDU), in order to be able to relocate the free spaces and facilities, which are currently being questioned due to their location in a chemical risk area.
In addition, they have stressed that the unemployment levels in Catalonia and the dire economic effects of the pandemic force them to be open to a business project of this magnitude. However, always considering the due controls and guarantees.
On the other hand, although Hard Rock has posted a bond of 10 million, it has requested two extensions to finalize the purchase of the land, with a deadline of December 15.
