The UK's Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) is issuing a positive response to the anticipated announcement from the British government regarding the introduction of new online betting limits for slot machine games. This announcement, expected to be made public this Friday, follows extensive consultations initiated by the government on gambling reforms.
The proposed restrictions are imposing a maximum bet of £2 for individuals under 25 years old, reflecting regulations applied to Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBTs) in 2019. For those over 25 years old, the maximum bet is set at £5 per spin.
Michael Dugher, CEO of the BGC, expresses satisfaction with the government's decision, noting that these new limits will provide greater protection, especially for young people. The BGC is actively supporting the government's intention to reform betting limits and is participating in the consultation and discussion process that is leading to these proposals.
Dugher also points out that "it is important to recognize that measures like this come with a cost to our members and impact their customers." He warns of the possibility of players turning to unregulated gambling platforms if a proper balance in regulation is not achieved.
The BGC's response reflects a commitment to the safety and well-being of players while acknowledging the importance of considering the commercial implications of these measures. It is hoped that this collaboration between the government and the gambling industry will lead to a safer and more responsible gambling environment in the UK.o a safer and more responsible gambling environment in the UK.
