The European Lotteries (EL) are stepping up their ambition to lead the sector in sustainability with the launch of a new programme aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions across their members' operations.
Announced at today’s EL/WLA Sustainability and Responsible Gaming Seminar in Dublin, this initiative underscores EL's commitment to driving environmental change in the lottery industry.
EL's goal is not only to actively reduce emissions but to set measurable targets and promote sustainable practices that combat climate change. By encouraging its members to lower their carbon footprint, EL seeks to position itself as a leader in the sector, demonstrating that environmental transformation is both achievable and essential. This effort also enhances the national lotteries' positive social impact.
In addition, EL unveiled updated Sustainability Guidelines, now fully aligned with global standards, offering a comprehensive roadmap for members to integrate sustainability into every aspect of their operations, from responsible supply chains to player protection.
"Our aim is to lead with a proactive approach to addressing climate change. The updated guidelines ensure that EL members remain pioneers in both environmental and social responsibility," said Romana Girandon, EL President.
Through this programme, EL aims to influence policy debates, raise awareness on sustainability, and drive innovation for lasting positive social impact.
