The online gaming sector has consolidated its leadership in e-commerce in Spain, occupying a prominent position both in the ranking of turnover and in the number of transactions carried out during the first quarter of 2024. According to the latest data from the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC), this sector not only leads transactions with 7.2% of the total, but has also managed to position itself among those with the highest turnover within e-commerce.
Online gaming has established itself as a mainstay of e-commerce in Spain. In terms of number of transactions, this sector topped the ranking during the first quarter of 2024, surpassing other traditional sectors such as tourism and fashion. With 7.2% of total transactions, the gaming sector has demonstrated its ability to capture high user demand on digital platforms.
However, its success is not only limited to the number of transactions. The online gaming sector has also excelled in the turnover ranking, showing sustained growth in turnover generated through digital platforms. Although other sectors such as travel agencies and air transport continue to lead in terms of total revenues, online betting and gaming remains at the top of the ranking.
E-commerce in Spain experienced a year-on-year growth of 13.7% in the first quarter of 2024, reaching a turnover of more than 21 billion euros. Within this context, the online gaming sector has been a key contributor, capturing a significant share of this expanding market.
With the increase in turnover and the consolidation as a leader in transactions, the online gaming sector has become an essential pillar of the digital economy in Spain.
