Wynn Resorts has confirmed that construction on Wynn Al Marjan Island has resumed after a short pause, underlining that the group remains in regular contact with the governments of the United States and Ras Al Khaimah so it can take informed decisions as the project moves forward.

In its latest update, the company said it continues to have confidence in the UAE’s ability to protect its population and noted that normal business patterns have continued across broad parts of the local market. Wynn also said measures have been put in place to safeguard all employees working on site, while staff have been given the option to work from abroad when recommended by their home embassies.

The update matters because Wynn Al Marjan Island is not just another international project in the operator’s pipeline. It is a flagship resort designed to anchor Wynn’s long term expansion in the Arabian Peninsula and the wider Middle East. The development in Ras Al Khaimah is expected to open in 2027 and has been positioned as a landmark integrated resort for the UAE.

That ambition has been clear from the start. When Wynn unveiled the project’s plans and renderings in 2023, the company set out a scheme built around a hotel and casino tower rising roughly 1,000 feet above the island’s shoreline. The original concept included around 1,500 hotel rooms and suites, premium beachfront villas, 24 restaurants and lounges, 120,000 square feet of retail space and 100,000 square feet dedicated to convention and meeting facilities.

One of the most significant points in Wynn’s positioning was that the casino would occupy only a small share of the overall footprint, around 4 percent of the 5.6 million square foot development. In other words, the property was conceived from the outset as a fully fledged luxury resort with gaming as a strategic component inside a much broader hospitality, entertainment and events offer.

That approach helps explain why Wynn Al Marjan Island has drawn so much attention across the gaming industry. The project is being developed on the man made Al Marjan Island in partnership with local groups Marjan LLC and RAK Hospitality Holding LLC, in what is widely seen as one of the fastest growing tourism markets in the Middle East and North Africa. Its location also gives Wynn access to a huge international catchment area through nearby Dubai, strengthening the commercial logic behind the investment.

The resumed construction therefore sends a clear message to the market. Despite short term disruption, Wynn is still pushing ahead with a project that combines architectural scale, premium tourism, convention business and gaming in a way that could reshape how operators view the UAE opportunity. For the global casino sector, Al Marjan Island remains one of the most closely watched resort developments anywhere in the world.
