SPAIN: The Union of Gaming Halls Workers of the Valencian Community arises for the defense of 2,500 workers
The Union of Gaming Halls Workers of the Valencian Community (UTSJCV) started activities on social networks last Saturday, May 1st.
The UTSJCV brings together 2,500 workers from the 426 Gaming Halls existing in the Valencian Community and has the firm purpose of DEFENDING their jobs “against the attacks that in recent months we have been receiving from certain political parties and public institutions”, according to what is stated on its website.
Thus, the UTSJCV highlights: “Ours is a decent job. We are not criminals. We work to offer a quality service to Valencians who decide, in the exercise of their free will, to access one of the multiple Gaming Halls open in our Community to enjoy part of their free time”.
Also, they affirm: “The workers of the Gaming Halls ensure compliance with current regulations, we prevent minors and those in the register of prohibited from accessing establishments. This is recognized by the Generalitat Valenciana itself in its latest report on Gaming in the Valencian Community (2018)”.
On the other hand, they attack frontally the future law related to Gaming that is processed in the Valencian Courts that "seriously endangers our jobs". And, they add: “With the text that will be submitted to the plenary vote, the Gaming Halls that are not more than 850 meters from any educational or health center and more than 500 meters from another Gaming Hall, must close when it ends the validity of the authorization that was granted to them before this law comes into force”.
To conclude, they reiterate their position and make a forceful request: "We ask the Government to keep the current regulation of private land-based gaming and not pass a law that will, in fact, end the Gaming Halls and, with them, our jobs".
