The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) reports that tennis chair umpire Daniel Zeferino has been banned for life after being found guilty on match-fixing charges.
ITIA has detailed that the charges were related to the manipulation of the data entered into his electronic scoring device at an ITF M15 event in 2020 facilitating guaranteed wins by bettors on those points.
Daniel Zeferino, who was serving as a level two white badge officer, admitted his conduct in an interview with the ITIA and did not dispute the charges which were considered by independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO) Ian Mill QC.
Considering the seriousness of Zeferino's multiple abuses in his position as chair umpire, AHO Mill QC ruled that the Portuguese should be permanently removed from the sport. This means that he will no longer be able to officiate at any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by any international tennis governing body or national association.
