The Assembly in Albania has recently announced that it had approved the proposed draft law "On some additions and changes to the law no. 155/2015, 'On gambling in the Republic of Albania', as amended", which aims to reshape the current regulatory scenario in Albania.
The draft law proposes the return of online sports betting, formalising the gambling market for this game category by licensing entities that have experience in exercising the "sports-betting" activity.
Among the most striking proposed changes, we can list the below stated items:
Revision of the licensing method, providing stronger criteria for gambling organisers.
Providing the means of registration of every player who plays sports betting, by having control over all information and the amount played.
Making payments only through financial agents.
Creation of the License Commission as a collegial decision-making structure for the licensing of entities that will exercise activity in the field of gambling.
Ensuring player protection, not only through social programmes but also through the guarantee fund for players.
Prohibition of gambling publicity in print and audiovisual media.
Creation of guarantees for the repayment of periodic obligations to the AMLF, the tax authority.
