The deadline for betting houses in Brazil to register with the SIGAP (Betting Management System) ended on September 30. However, some betting houses are still registering in the system linked to the Ministry of Finance. According to the regulation published in September, houses that do not register will be blocked by Anatel.
On Monday, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad stated that around 600 betting houses are set to be blocked. He mentioned that all of these have not requested registration with the SIGAP and are thus considered illegal in Brazil's online betting market.
"There are about 500 to 600 betting sites that will be taken offline in the coming days because Anatel will block access," Haddad commented.
In the same interview, Haddad recommended that bettors withdraw their funds from the sites while they are still operational. According to the regulation, bettors operating with unauthorized betting houses by the Ministry of Finance can withdraw their funds until October 10. Starting from October 11, 2024, sites that have not requested accreditation will be prohibited and removed from the internet.
"If you have any money in a betting house, request a refund now," Fernando Haddad advised.
As of the publication of this article, 186 betting companies had registered with the SIGAP, and despite the deadline ending at 11:59 PM on September 30, one company was registered on October 1.
