A scammer wins a lottery license in the Netherlands with the identity of a football club
The Dutch gambling regulator has withdrawn the license and alert of eight fraudulent websites.
The Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa), the gambling regulatory authority in the Netherlands, has withdrawn a lottery licence obtained through professional fraud. The licence was in the name of Quick Boys, a football club in the town of Katwijk, which never applied for it.
According to the regulator, the club is the victim of identity theft. During the application process, an unknown party posed as the president of Quick Boys and thus managed to get the Ksa to grant him the license.
Eight fraudulent websites
The scammer used the license to create websites where lottery tickets were sold. The KSA has identified eight domains, which do not belong to Quick Boys and are not related to the club:
Risk of phishing and identity fraud
The regulator asks citizens not to enter personal data on these websites, such as name, address, email, telephone or bank details.
The Ksa warns that it does not know what the fraudster does with that information, which could be used to commit phishing or new identity fraud.
