This Tuesday, July 7th, Schleswig-Holstein's Ministry of the Interior announced that the Central Association of the German Advertising Industry (ZAW) and the German Association for Telecommunications and Media (DVTM) reached an agreement to limit the minutes of television advertising at 17,000 per month, an amount that represents the maximum that all providers can collectively cover on broadcast television across the country.
The German Telecommunications and Media Association (DVTM) will use "neutral media monitoring data" to ensure compliance with the proposed limit, and will allow "critics" to verify this data continuously. In addition, you can send reports to the corresponding authorities, in case of detecting excesses.
Regarding the criticism and claims of a "massive increase in gambling advertising", the DVTM assures that it is fake news spread by politicians and the land-based gaming sector.
In this regard, Renatus Zilles, CEO of DVTM, expressed that land-based gaming fears online competition, while certain politicians seek to generate outrage from society.
Zilles also said that this model of control could be to serve "as a model for the regulation of advertising, in the future State Gaming Treaty". Something that undoubtedly gains importance considering that Germany is in the process of transitioning to a market of regulated online gaming throughout the country.
