 EXCLUSIVE ANALYSIS:
The Spanish decreased their online gambling frequency while the use of video games and the Internet increased

 
The Spanish Observatory on Drugs and Addictions (OEDA) published the results of a study carried out to determine the impact of COVID-19 on the behavior of individuals in relation to the use of illegal drugs, tobacco, alcohol, gambling, video games and Internet.

 In the case of online gambling, video games and the internet, an online survey was carried out between May 18 and June 30, 2020, which received more than 2,000 responses from all the autonomous communities.
The results show that despite the beliefs of some, online gambling decreased during confinement. Let's see in detail the most outstanding results of the study carried out by OEDA:

Online gambling
  • 86.6% of the people who answered the survey said that they did not play before or during confinement
  • 45.5% said that their playing frequency had dropped
  • 28.5% report playing with the same frequency
  • 26% indicate that during confinement it has increased
  • 16.5% started playing

The most used games during confinement have been card games, bingo, slot machines and the use of money in video games, while sports betting, lotteries and lotteries are the least used.

Video game
  • 53% reported having played video games before or during confinement
  • 47% reported not being video game players (neither before nor during confinement).
  • 15.2% of people have started using video games during confinement
  • 46.4% have maintained the frequency
  • 39.5% have increased the frequency
  • 14% have decreased the frequency
  • 10.4% have stopped
  • Before confinement the most common frequency was 1 to 3 days a month, while during confinement it is more common for video games to be used 5 to 7 days a week

  • 68.9% state that they have increased their use
  • 27% use has not changed
  • 2% consider usage has decreased
