The State Duma, one of Russia's legislative powers, passed a draft of the sports betting laws, which is expected to come into effect in mid-autumn 2020.
We highlight the following changes in sports betting laws:
- Bets are limited to sporting events organized by Russian sports federations and professional sports leagues.
- Bets on sports events organized by international sports organizations are allowed.
- Operators that allow betting on non-Russian sports must pay contributions to the Russian sports federations, at least 5% of GGR every three months. In case of not paying within the established period, they may lose the license.
- Licensees must have a bank guarantee of RUB500 million and RUB1 billion of assets.
