The Portuguese Ministry of Economy is re-evaluating the gambling concessions in Lisbon, Estoril and Figueira da Foz. In statements to the Portuguese press, the administration has not provided details of the bidding schedule or current negotiations. However, the representatives explained that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a strong impact, so the situation is exceptional.
The 2019 report from the Estoril Sol company, founded by Stanley Ho, a gaming entrepreneur and architect of the spectacular development of the sector in Macau, says:
"The shareholding structure of Estoril Sol, and the respective board of directors, remain awaiting the launch of the public tender, with the intention of competing for a new gambling concession in the permanent gaming area of ??Estoril"
“The board of directors declares itself firmly committed to maintaining the new gaming concession in the Estoril Zone, believing that the financial soundness of the concessionaire, supported, if necessary, by the banking partners with whom it has always maintained a fruitful relationship".
