The 3rd quarterly report 2020 has been published on the website of the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling.
Below is a summary of the report offered by the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling:
The GGR for the quarter was € 197.17 million, which represents a decrease of -5.59% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 2.83% compared to the same quarter of 2019.
In relation to the main magnitudes, deposits and withdrawals from players, the variation rates increased 11.85% and 16.72% compared to the previous quarter, respectively. Marketing spending and new accounts increased significantly from the previous quarter, 269.49% and 139.44% respectively.
In the analysis of the GGR by gaming segments, it is observed that:
€ 197.17 million of GGR is distributed in € 85.23 million in Betting (43.22%); € 3.89 million in Bingo (1.97%); € 83.89 million in Casino (42.55%), € 1.15 million in Contests (0.58%) and € 23.01 million in Poker (11.67%).
The betting segment has a growth rate compared to the previous quarter of 25.06% and -15.43% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Conventional counterpart sports betting increased by 32.63% and live by 31.89% compared to the previous quarter. In this quarter, other counterpart bets and counterpart horse racing bets decreased by -18.06% and -175.95% respectively.
Bingo has experienced a decrease of -22.88% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 22.58% compared to the same quarter of 2019.
In the casino segment there has been a decrease of -10.31% compared to the second quarter of 2020 and a positive annual variation rate of 25.98%. This decrease occurs in all games and is mainly due to the behavior of roulette (both conventional and live) and slot machines with quarterly variations of -28.55%, -16.80% and -3.99% respectively. In this quarter, it is observed that the market share of the casino is slightly lower than the betting figures.
The contests experienced in this quarter a decrease of -70.62% and a 58.38% in annual variation rate. This segment presents an irregular behavior with annual variation rates in the third quarter of 25.51% in 2017; -85.02% in 2018; 128.23% in 2019.
Poker presents this third quarter of 2020 a decrease of -39.76% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 12.36% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Both cash poker and tournament poker decreased, which registered a quarterly variation rate of -48.58% and -35.41% respectively.
Marketing spending in the quarter was € 150.09 million, broken down into € 9.36 million affiliation expenses; € 6.53 million sponsorship; promotions 82.38; and advertising € 51.83 million. Compared to the previous quarter, this expense increased considerably by 269.49%, motivated by the repeal, on June 9, 2020, of the restrictions on advertising and promotion of online gaming that had been established in RDL 11/2020 of 1 April, within the framework of the state of alarm derived from the current health crisis. It is worth highlighting the increase in promotions by 560.34% and advertising by 201.97%. In this quarter, promotions are broken down into bonuses released in prizes € 57.69 million and € 24.69 million not included in prizes.
The monthly average of active gaming accounts is 881,755, which implies a growth of 37.14% compared to the previous quarter and an annual variation of 1.40%. The monthly average of new accounts is 330,262 users, with a quarterly and annual increase of 139.44% and 29.88% respectively.
