In the United States, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a millionaire agreement with Seminole Tribe president Marcellus Osceola Jr that would bring mobile sports betting to Florida and allow Las Vegas-style casinos in all tribal facilities. More specifically, after the corresponding legal approvals, the Seminole Tribe would be the exclusive operator of digital sportsbooks in Florida for the next 30 years, for which it agrees to pay the state a minimum of $ 500 million in annual payments.
We must emphasize that both parties have classified the agreement as historic, although they recognize that there will be opposition.
The Legislature will meet in a special session in May to consider its approval, and once the agreement is ratified, the U.S. Department of Interior must do the same for it to be effective.
If approved, anyone over the age of 21, in the state of Florida and who has the application on their mobile device, could bet on sports events or competitions. Additionally, Florida would become the most populous state in the country to offer mobile sports betting, currently licensed in 29 states.
The governor of DeSantis called this agreement a "win-win", because the Tribe can share the revenue with the state and the state can regulate gaming activities.
The Tribe would take a portion of every sports bet placed, but the parimutuels and the Tribe could negotiate with companies like Barstool, DraftKings, and FanDuel to operate their retail betting books online.
