The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies has passed legislation establishing taxation on sports betting, including those placed on online casino platforms.
The initiative, driven by Arthur Lira, President of the Chamber and member of the Progressive Party (PP) from Alagoas, aims to regulate the growing betting market in the country.
The approval of this legislation marks a significant milestone in Brazil's efforts to address the increasing popularity of sports betting and online gambling. The new regulations provide a legal framework for the collection of taxes on income generated from these activities.
"This measure represents a significant step towards the regulation and oversight of a market that has experienced considerable growth in recent years. Additionally, it will enable the generation of tax revenue for the country," emphasized Arthur Lira after the vote.
The legislation includes the application of taxes on profits derived from bets on sporting events, as well as on revenues generated by online casinos. It establishes a legal framework that incorporates mechanisms for control and supervision to ensure transparency and integrity in these activities.
