Melilla is committed to attracting digital talent with Miguel Marín
The Minister of Technological Innovation of Melilla, Miguel Marín, has received a group of content creators and digital communication professionals who are currently in the city to participate in different activities promoted by the Melilla Entrepreneurship Cluster, in a meeting focused on the advantages of the city to develop digital professional projects.
The meeting has served to present first-hand the possibilities offered by Melilla as a place from which to develop their professional activity, produce content and launch new digital projects, within the strategy that the Autonomous City has been developing to attract talent, economic activity and professionals linked to the technological and creative sectors.
Marín explained that this type of visit allows the professionals themselves to know the reality of the city and directly assess its conditions, pointing out that the aim is for them to perceive first-hand what Melilla offers as a destination to work and to carry out their podcasts, videos and publications from there. The Minister has especially stressed the combination of factors that make Melilla an alternative for professionals whose activity can be carried out from any location, including its specific tax regime, with a deduction of 60% in Personal Income Tax on the part of the quotas corresponding to certain income obtained in the city, as well as quality of life and connectivity, with good air connections with the Peninsula.
The Minister confirmed that this recruitment work has already begun to produce results, and that some content creators have decided to take up residence in Melilla after getting to know the city directly. For Marín, the impact of these additions is not limited to the generation of economic activity, since the presence of creators also allows the image of the city to be projected towards wide-ranging digital communities.
Among the projects that the city is promoting to strengthen this sector, the Minister highlighted the future Business Incubator 4.0, developed in collaboration with the INCYDE Foundation, which will involve an investment of more than 2.1 million euros and will provide a space specifically designed for creators to produce content using advanced technology and professional equipment.
Gabriel Ruiz, president of the Melilla Entrepreneurship Cluster, explained that these visits are part of the familiarisation trips that are being developed to combat the lack of knowledge that still exists about Melilla, both in relation to its taxation and its connectivity and professional possibilities, underlining the interest in these creators becoming prescribers of the city within their communities.
For his part, Cristóbal Gázquez, president of the Spanish Union of Creators, stressed that Melilla offers possibilities that transcend the tax component, focusing on the existing opportunities for the development of new projects, the creation of personal brands and the generation of activity linked to new digital professions.
The meeting with the minister was attended by, among others, Borja Fernández Zurrón, creator of Memorias de Pez; Iván Blanco, head of Marketing Notes; Marta García, creator of Ahorra con Marta; Chickenpapi, one of the presenters of the podcast Un Chino y Medio; the journalist and writer David Jiménez; and Cristóbal Gázquez himself.
