JACQUELINE MECINAS | MADRID
We show you a brief interview with of one of the most influential professionals in the gaming sector in Spain and the president of one of the best positioned companies in both based and online verticals: José González Fuentes (Luckia´s Group President):

Jacqueline Mecinas: How is LUCKIA facing this health and economic crisis?

José González Fuentes: Our first priority has been to ensure the safety of our teams, both on a personal and work level, maintaining 100% of the jobs and, in any case, taking the necessary emergency measures to preserve the sustainability of the company.

Specifically, we seek to provide specific solutions to the equipment, taking into account the different reality and regulatory peculiarities of each territory and jurisdiction where we are located, so we had to adapt to the times and deadlines of different countries.

JM: Will this situation of confinement modify the behaviour and habits of society?

JGF: I believe that this extraordinary situation of restricted mobility can modify consumer behaviour and habits, moving from the now limited face-to-face business to the online channel. Before this crisis, there were many customers who were still reluctant, but because of this confinement, they have naturally accessed the digital channel and we believe they will continue to use it when the restrictions are lifted as they will have discovered that the user experience is really good. In this sense, the digital channel can gain ground over physical business.

JM: How should the industry deal with the process of deconfinement?

JGF: In my opinion, all possible measures should be taken to ensure the safety of both our employees and customers. Starting with targeted measures relating to controls and requirements for access to premises, such as the need to maintain safe and disinfected spaces in accordance with the indications prescribed by the health authorities at all times.

The premises must be redesigned in order to adapt to this new reality, with spaces where adequate distances are maintained between users, making available the basic means of protection such as gloves and approved masks. In any case, the relevant thing is to accommodate the premises in order to provide the customer with the necessary confidence so that their training experience is as satisfactory as possible.

To this end, we have a multidisciplinary team specially dedicated to this, defining all the measures and actions we have to take, as well as the material to be acquired for their disposal the day we can open to the public again.

JM: How is LUCKIA´s team living this situation?

JGF: The reality is that all the operation teams, without exception, have assumed from the first moment this critical situation with a great effort and showing their commitment and support to the company.

Similarly, if we did not also have the commitment and loyalty of the management team that we have the responsibility to run this company, it would be very difficult to get out of this situation. I believe that the people who make up the Luckia Group have once again risen to the occasion, something of which I am particularly proud at this time.

JM: Will this situation of paralysis of all land-based business change the strategy of the LUCKIA Group?

JGF: There is no doubt that this situation will force us to review our objectives, which we had before this moment, for the period 2020-2024.

Although in recent years we have focused on investments outside Spain and projects such as the Luckia Arica complex in Chile, from the perspective of the Spanish market, we have been very prudent with regard to any investment, always giving priority to organic growth.

Now, we believe that there will be opportunities in the face to face channel and, in this sense, we are going to try to grow in Spain both in the operator and in Gaming Rooms, either partnering with other operators as we did in the past or on our own. In the international field, we want to continue growing Casinos and, especially, in the online channel.

The Online channel continues to be one of our strategic pillars, now acquiring even more prominence. The disruption of society's consumer habits caused by the technological revolution will be further accelerated by the massive use of the digital channel due to mobility restrictions resulting from this health crisis.

It is in this channel that I continue to see greater growth potential for our Group. In fact, our objective is that in 2024 this channel will exceed 150,000 clients, when in 2019, we were around 25,000 and that the weight in revenue with respect to the Group as a whole will reach 33%, when in 2019 it was 10%.
