Secretary-General of FEMARA warns about the lack of precision in the measures to reopen the hospitality industry in Spain
 

Miguel García Campos says "The lack of specification of the measures announced by the president yesterday, April 28, and the deficiencies in the guide on lifting the restrictions on the state of alarm prepared by the Ministry of Health, prevent an adequate assessment".

García Campos adds that it will be possible to make the rigorous evaluations "when the corresponding norms are published and as long as the conditions established by the Government are met".

However, he explains that at FEMARA they consider that “with these measures, 30% of the establishments will not be able to continue their activity, that their income will decrease by 40% compared to the previous year and that employment could decrease by 25%, figures that in the gaming sector in bars and restaurants they can be increased as it is a complementary activity”.

In this situation, García Campos says "the important thing is not to open establishments as a matter of urgency but to implement the appropriate measures so that users and consumers access the establishments".

It also reiterates the need to "support operating companies through, among other measures, the 100% discount on the fixed rate of the Tax Rate on gambling, since the state of alarm came into effect until a month after the bars and restaurants operate normally”.

In reference to employment, he warns that it is essential "the expansion and clarification of the application of ERTES until 100% of activity is recovered, since it is impossible to maintain all jobs if economic activity is significantly reduced".

To conclude, and with a view to the future, García Campos is emphatic when he affirms that “when the 'new normality' is reached, and we know what it consists of, new measures will undoubtedly be proposed so that companies and the economy continue to function, an objective that the Public Administrations must pursue”.
