INFOPLAY/ COMUNICADO |
AEJOMA, AMADER, FEMARAES AND OPEMARE have made a financial balance that compares current data with those of the same date in 2019 and the outlook is dire.

By September 30, the income of companies in the gaming sector has decreased by 48.3% compared to what was registered on the same date in 2019. The most affected have been those establishments with machines in bars, restaurants and betting , due to capacity and schedule limitations, as well as the suspension of sports competitions.

On the other hand, the sector has reaffirmed its great capacity to generate employment and confirms that almost all employees have rejoined from the Record of Temporary Employment Regulation.

We share the INFORMATIVE NOTE of AEJOMA, AMADER, FEMARAES and OPEMARE

In 2019, the land-based entertainment gaming sector in the Community of Madrid (casinos, bingo halls, gaming halls, bets and machines in the hospitality industry) received € 718 million (of which 152.3 went to the Community coffers) through special taxes on gambling), with 8,837 direct employees and contributing to sustain the equivalent of the labor cost of 5,033 jobs in the hospitality industry (by dividing the income from the B machines installed in bars between their owners and the operating companies of the machines). In addition, the effect of the sector on the regional economy translates into another 10,000 indirect jobs.

The Covid-19 crisis seriously impacts this sector. Its income as of September 30 is 48.3% of what was registered on the same date last year. Hospitality machines, due to their complementary nature, suffer more from the consequences of the stoppage, it is precisely the sector with the greatest potential for job creation.

The impact of crises on the gaming sector is always deeper than in other sectors, for example, the sale of beer in hotels (-37%), car sales (-38%), restaurants (some of its large companies sales have fallen by 26.4%) or fashion stores (-30.6%). National Lottery sales have fallen by 30% in these months.

A good part of the gaming hall staff and the hospitality machine operators have been reinstated.

The graph published as the main image of this text shows the evolution of the sector in the Community of Madrid during these months, in comparison with Retail Trade in general and car sales.
