Francisco Portugal, who was invited to the gala of the VII Responsible Gaming and CSR Awards at Madrid’s Teatro Real and took part in presenting one of the awards, has highlighted INTERPOL’s role in a major investigation into suspected match manipulation in professional and youth football.
INTERPOL has reinforced its position in the fight against match-fixing following a major operation carried out by Czech authorities in cooperation with Slovenian counterparts over suspected manipulation in professional and youth football.
Francisco Portugal, Anti-Corruption Coordinator pro tempore at INTERPOL’s Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Centre, underlined the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and the sports community after taking part in the UEFA Integrity Officer Forum, organized by the UEFA Anti-Match-Fixing Unit.
His remarks came just as Czech and Slovenian authorities moved forward with an operation targeting suspected attempts to influence match results for financial gain. According to the information released, players, referees and officials are among those under suspicion, while raids in multiple locations led to the seizure of devices and key evidence.
INTERPOL also confirmed that its Match-Fixing Task Force deployed officers to both countries, providing intelligence, analytical support and cross-border coordination. That joint work helped investigators identify links to broader criminal networks, while the case remains ongoing as the evidence continues to be examined.
Francisco Portugal is also known to the Spanish responsible gaming community through his participation in the gala of the VII Responsible Gaming and CSR Awards, held at the Teatro Real, where he was invited as a guest and presented one of the awards.
