Sponsorships in Spain: Betway will continue in the Leganés shirt if the team remains in First Division
Placed in penultimate position in the standings, Leganés will continue for another season with bookmaker Betway as its main sponsor if the team finally remains in the First Division. The agreement signed with this British company in the spring of 2018 was for two seasons with a mandatory option for a third as long as the team remained in the first division.
Leganés has a sponsorship contract with the bookmaker Betway.es that will be extended for one more year if the team continues in La Liga (Primera Division). Located in the penultimate position of the League, the task will not be easy in the eleven days that remain to be played. If the team drops to Second (the last three classified do), it will be the company that must choose. The agreement leaves almost a million euros to Leganés.
In the event of a decline, the economic conditions would also be different from the current ones. The Madrid club pockets almost a million euros per season for wearing this advertising in the first team jacket, as well as in training clothing and fixed advertising both in the mixed zone and in the press room.
At the level of legislation, the presence in the clothing of Leganés would be guaranteed despite the fact that the Government is preparing new legislation on advertising for bookmakers in various public spaces. The draft law that is handled by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs directed by Alberto Garzón states that the possibility of sponsoring elite team jerseys will be maintained, but not to name these teams. In Spain the Kirolbet Baskonia would be the main victim of this last part of the rule.
