Bolsonaro changes his mind and his government could lift the historic veto on casinos in Brazil
The Minister of Finance of Brazil, Paulo Guedes, defender of the process of legalization of online gambling, would be looking favorably on lifting the ban on opening land-based casinos in the country to stimulate tourism and increase incomes for the Treasury. Thus, under the direction of the Minister of Tourism and the Minister of Education (Evangelical Pastor Damares Alves), the granting of licenses to open casinos in tourist resorts could be near.
The Brazilian president changes his mind and is going to allow a parliamentary debate to open on the legalization of casinos in the country. Thus, while in an interview on March 20 Bolsonaro insisted that "the issue of the legalization of casinos would not be dealt with in this legislature", the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, has announced that he will start working on the proposal to legalize casinos in resorts. Furthermore, surprisingly, this idea has had the support of Braga Netto, the country's Minister of Education, who also holds the position of pastor in a Protestant Church.
As we can see in the following video, President Jair Bolsonaro was interviewed on March 20 by presenter Ratinho on SBT and stated that the casino issue would not be discussed in his government.
Among the reasons given to reinforce what was also an electoral promise, he mentioned the fight against "money laundering" and closed the issue with an explicit: "this issue is not discussed."
A month later, the president has been forced to allow a wide debate on the legalization of casinos and even vice president Hamilton Mourão has confirmed that the Executive is working on the issue.
It has also emerged that the Minister of the Civil House, Braga Netto, proposed the holding of a new ministerial meeting so that the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, can discuss the proposal to legalize casinos in integrated resorts. In addition, the education minister Braga Netto has already given the go-ahead for part of the taxes collected to go to her department.
