In Paraguay, the National Gambling Commission (Conajzar) has reported the serious economic repercussions that the total closure of establishments since mid-March has brought to the gaming sector.
Conajzar published on its website a table that reflects how during January and February the income was slightly higher than in 2019. More specifically, G. 11,800 million in the month of January (approximately 1.5 million euros) and G. 10,850 million in February (approximately 1.42 million euros).
However, with the lockdown, revenue began its downward trend. While in March the figure fell to G. 9,882 million (approximately 1.3 million euros); in April, the collection fell to G. 5,485 million (approximately 722 thousand euros); and, in May, it was only G. 625.4 million (82,000 euros).
In other words, last May the drop was 94%, if we consider that the gaming income for the same period in 2019 was G. 10,395 million (approximately 1.36 million euros).
These alarming numbers jeopardize not only the contribution of taxes to various social causes, but also affect more than 4,000 jobs.
