In the United States, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is proposing the legalization of mobile sports betting with a system similar to the state lottery to maximize government revenue.

On this modality, the director of the State Budget, Robert Mujica, said that New York could earn an estimated $ 500 million, while if they allow the casinos to carry out their own gaming operations, the state would only earn around $ 50 million annually .

It should be noted that out of the 19 states that have currently legalized mobile sports betting, three do so through their lotteries and they are: Oregon, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, where sports betting is operated by the lottery in association with IGT and William Hill.

According to Bloomberg, Cuomo at a press conference explained that he is seeking to select a single platform to partner with one of the existing casinos in the state. In this regard, the New York State Gaming Commission would issue a request for proposals to select an operator that will also have to comply with protection and security measures for users.

Likewise, among the candidate providers for this license are Scientific Games Corp. and International Game Technology Plc

It should be noted that in the past the governor opposed this legalization, but faced with a budget deficit of $ 16 billion budget gap related to the coronavirus, he is looking for new income options.
