As we published in September, the Macau authorities are evaluating the possible participation of the government as supervisors of day-to-day operations and thereby tightening restrictions on the gaming industry.

As part of this group of measures, experts believe that regulators will take advantage of the bidding process for new licenses to force operators to become digital currency testbeds.

In recent remarks, Central Bank Governor Yi Gang indicated that the digital yuan could be useful for fighting crime and resolving complex cross-border payments problems, including money-laundering. Along these lines, the digital currency represents an opportunity for greater controls and testing the technology before implementing it more widely in mainland China.

The digital yuan has been tested in other Chinese provinces and it is estimated that consumers have spent more than US $ 10 billion on this asset. The official launch is scheduled to be during the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 next February.
