Following a week of intense debate, the Swedish government has decided to remove the COVID-19 restrictions placed on online casinos from the 2nd July 2020, meaning they have been in place for a period of 18 months.
The restrictions stated that players' weekly deposits could not exceed €478.20 (SEK 5000), while bonuses offered by online casinos had to be capped at €9.56 (SEK 100).
Regarding the elimination of these restrictions, The Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS), recalls that when they were implemented, they warned that they would not have the desired effect and, in fact, instead of forcing players to limit their bets, it would simply encourage them to change carrier.
In this line, Gustaf Hoffstedt, Secretary General, BOS, has expressed that it is a wise and well-balanced decision.
