Brazil's Ministry of Finance and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) have signed a cooperation agreement to guarantee the integrity of sports betting within the country.
The agreement allows both parties to share information on suspicious betting activities related to Brazilian sports and collaborate on joint investigations.
This partnership brings together Brazil’s governmental authority, responsible for the legality and safety of the country’s betting market, and the leading international integrity monitoring organization for private betting operators. H2 Gambling Capital data indicates that IBIA covers over 70% of Brazil’s online betting market. In collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, they will work to prevent match-fixing.
According to the report The Availability of Sports Betting Products: An Economic and Integrity Analysis, the new sports betting regulation in Brazil is expected to generate up to $34 billion in revenue by 2028, increasing the need to protect customers and uphold sports integrity.
A central element of Brazil’s new legislation requires licensed operators to affiliate with an independent sports integrity monitoring body. This measure strengthens IBIA's capacity to monitor transactions within Brazil's regulated market, ensuring fair and transparent sporting events.
Regis Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Betting, stated: “The partnership with IBIA will enhance the work of the Secretariat for Prizes and Betting (SPA) in combating the manipulation of sporting events. Together, we will mitigate this issue on a global scale.”
Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, remarked: “IBIA is pleased to have formalized this agreement with the Brazilian Ministry of Finance. Collaboration and information sharing are essential for an effective system against match-fixing.”
