Brazil’s Ministry of Finance’s Secretariat for Prizes and Betting (SPA-MF) and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) formalized a Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT) on December 9 to enhance the fight against illegal online betting.
This partnership aims to streamline communication between institutions, enabling swift action to block unregulated websites and protect consumers.
Since October 11, over 5,200 illegal websites have been shut down. The ACT includes a detailed work plan to optimize operational procedures and strengthen collaboration between SPA and Anatel. SPA identifies and catalogs illegal sites, while Anatel ensures their effective blocking by coordinating with internet service providers.
Brazil’s regulated betting market will officially launch on January 1, 2025. Authorized platforms will be required to use the domain “.bet.br,” facilitating user identification and enhancing platform credibility. Regis Dudena, SPA’s Secretary for Prizes and Betting, stated, “This cooperation strengthens the fight against illegality, protects consumers, and ensures a transparent and competitive sector.”
Carlos Baigorri, President of Anatel, highlighted the agreement's significance: “This agile processing flow ensures rapid execution of blocks, combating illicit practices that harm competition and violate the law.”
