Regulatory requirements are increasing worldwide, and the Merkur Group has taken a proactive step by hosting an international compliance workshop at its in-house training center, Schloss Benkhausen, located at its headquarters in Espelkamp. Over two days, 42 compliance managers from 13 countries gathered to address global challenges, exchange best practices, and strengthen internal collaboration.
“Regulatory demands are growing year by year. That’s why it’s essential to maintain ongoing dialogue within the company and benefit from one another’s perspectives and experiences,” said Ludwig Beckmann, Chief Compliance Officer of the Merkur Group.
A key highlight of the event was the introduction of a central risk management system, aimed at optimizing current practices and fostering an integrated approach that connects Legal, Audit, and Business Operations departments. Working groups also discussed know-your-customer (KYC) processes and due diligence checks for business partners.
The concept of a central legal dispute register was also introduced, which can help respond more efficiently to regulatory demands during licensing procedures. The UK team presented the UK Gambling Authority’s draft legislation, and additional sessions explored ways to improve the effectiveness of whistleblowing mechanisms.
“The strategic measures and frameworks developed during the meeting form a solid foundation for the ongoing evolution of our global compliance culture,” Beckmann concluded.
Compliance professionals from the UK, Malta, Spain, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Croatia, Belgium, Australia, Colombia, and Peru participated in the event.
