The Federal Government of Brazil announced on Tuesday the creation of an Interministerial Task Force (TF) to tackle sports result manipulation. The initiative was formalized through Interministerial Ordinance Mesp-MF-MJSP No. 1, signed jointly by the Ministries of Finance, Sports, and Justice and Public Security.
The TF’s main mission is to draft a National Policy to Combat Sports Result Manipulation, with the aim of safeguarding the credibility of competitions across the country.
This decision comes in response to a growing number of reports of match-fixing cases. According to Regis Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance, manipulation threatens “the core of sport: its unpredictability” and has the potential to harm both the industry and society at large.
The Task Force will be coordinated by Giovanni Rocco, National Secretary for Sports Betting and Sports Economic Development, with the support of the Federal Police. It will operate for six months, renewable for another six.
Sports Minister André Fufuca stressed that the group will implement an integrated flow for processing complaints, avoiding overlaps between agencies and aligning with international best practices while prioritizing local realities.
As its first major initiative, the Task Force is expected to host a national technical meeting later this year, including the training of 27 Civil Police delegates and 27 Federal Police Superintendents, reinforcing Brazil’s coordinated fight against illegal practices threatening the integrity of sport.
