Slot machines: nearly 80% of total revenue

Slot machines remain the undisputed engine of the market, accounting for 78.8% of total gross revenue in the period. This segment alone generated €51.5 million, marking a 3.1% year-on-year increase and consolidating its dominant position in Portuguese casinos.

Banked games also posted growth, up 1.9% to nearly €13 million, representing 19.8% of the total. On the other hand, non-banked games registered a sharp decline of 11.4%, contributing just €926,000, or 1.4% of the overall revenue.

Roulette and blackjack lead banked games

Within the banked games category, blackjack/21 posted the strongest growth, rising 22.8% year-on-year to reach €2.3 million. American roulette also performed well, increasing 6.3% to more than €5.3 million.

In contrast, other games contracted:

Baccarat Ponto & Banca: down 4.4% to €3.2 million.

French Bank: down 7% to €1.9 million.

Poker without discard: down 56% to €166,000.

Non-banked poker: down 11.4% to €926,000.

The strong performance of roulette and blackjack compensated for these declines, driving a 0.9% increase in combined banked and non-banked games revenue compared to the same period in 2024.

On a monthly basis, May was the strongest month, generating €22.5 million, followed by April (€21.5 million) and June (€21.4 million). This monthly distribution shows stable revenue levels, with a mid-quarter peak that boosted overall results.

A stable sector with moderate growth

In summary, the land-based gambling industry in Portugal closed Q2 2025 with moderate but consistent growth, fueled mainly by slot machines and the strong performance of roulette and blackjack. The declines in poker and other traditional games highlight a shift in player preferences toward more dynamic and visual forms of entertainment.
