Camelot to sue Gambling Commission over wrongdoing in UK lottery contract renewal fight

Camelot plans to sue the Gambling Commission on the grounds that there were irregularities during the scoring process for the new license to operate the UK National Lottery, which has been awarded to Allwyn Entertainment, a subsidiary of Czech group Sazka, the operator of Europe's largest lottery.

It should be noted that Camelot has been the operator of the UK National Lottery since 1994, and its current license expires in 2024. The new contract is estimated to be worth around €95 billion over the next 10 years.

According to various sources, Camelot believes that Allwyn Entertainment won because the regulator adjusted the scores of the bidders after the current operator initially won. A “risk factor” discount of up to 15% was supposed to be applied to the financial projections made by each bidder.

As we recently reported, the Gambling Commission has announced a £3.15 million fine against Camelot for flaws linked to its mobile app that adversely affected consumers.
