UK betting operators will also donate their profits at the exclusive and popular "Britannia Stakes" race at Royal Ascot

Continuing the successful idea of donating the benefits of the virtual horse race that replaced Britain's most popular horse race, the Grand National, UK gaming operators will donate all their profits in Royal Ascot races to associations that fight Covid-19 and cancer charities.

Britain's top gambling operators have agreed to donate all of their winnings from Britannia's betting at Royal Ascot to Covid-19 and cancer charities. The money raised by the betting operators will go to Prostate Cancer UK, Marie Curie, The Care Workers Charity and the Berkshire Community Foundation Coronavirus Fund.

The move follows the huge success of the virtual Grand National in April which raised nearly £ 3 million for NHS Charities Together after members of the employers' association The Operators BGC (The Betting Gaming Council) agreed to donate all proceeds from the race.

Tracey Pritchard, UK Director of Fundraising and Supporter Engagement for Prostate Cancer, said: “I would like to thank everyone at the Gambling and Betting Council and its betting operator members for their incredibly kind gesture in helping to donate vital funds for UK Prostate Cancer. Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in the UK, with around 400,000 men and their families living with the disease. The Covid-19 pandemic has not only disrupted medical care, it has also disrupted vital research. While our research stopped, prostate cancer did not. The money raised by this fantastic initiative will go towards life-saving research on treatments and better tests to prevent the disease from being fatal, and for men and their families to access our support service during these difficult times. ”

Alastair Warwick, director of operations at Ascot Racecourse, said: "This is a tremendous gesture by many of the world's gambling powers."
